20.12.09 Could the UK have a Barack Obama? I have organized the first seminar in our ESRC Social Research Seminar Series at Manchester. The seminar examines the social and economic foundations of ethnic minority political representation. Speakers include John Solomos, Irene Bloemraad and Anthony Heath.
15.12.09 The politics of the forthcoming general election and the prospects of a Labour victory. I have been invited to speak at the Fabian New Year Conference – Causes to Fight For – on Saturday 16th January at Imperial College London.
07.12.09 Our research team at Manchester have been awarded an ESRC Seminar Series, which will examine the political representation of ethnic minorities in the UK in comparative perspective. The election of Barack Obama marked a landmark in the history of racial politics in the United States. Could someone from an ethnic minority achieve similar success in British politics?
05.12.09 Who votes BNP and why? A paper by myself and Robert Ford (University of Manchester), which examines the individual and contextual predictors of BNP voting, will appear in the New Year in volume 58, number 1 of the journal Political Studies. 13.10.09 In partnership with the Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) we are holding a one-day seminar on the ‘Far Right and Social Cohesion’. The seminar is invite-only and will be held in March 2009.
